The members of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly Committee on Works and Transport have called upon the residents of Uruan Akpan Andem community to be vigilant in safeguarding government facilities and prevent any acts of vandalism.

Otobong Bob, the chairman of the committee, offered this advice during their visit to inspect the progress of a market project in the area. He emphasized the importance of cultivating a culture of proper maintenance among the facility’s users and emphasized the need to address issues related to vandalism. Bob, who also represents Nsit Ubium State constituency, clarified that this inspection was part of their oversight duties.

Furthermore, he assured that they would recommend the completion of other segments of Johnson Street to the Governor.

During the project tour, the contractor, Engr. Uwem Okoko, elaborated on the demanding nature of the project.

“Along Ndiya street, drainage is available to deflood the central park of the market. We also had to run asphalt. We also undertook partial reconstruction of Johnson Street and internal roads inside the market.

“We also have the water project which has a tank litre of 20,000. We have done reticulation and the water is safe for drinking,” he narrated. 

In his comments, the Deputy Speaker and the representative of Itu State Constituency, Rt. Hon. Kufre Abasi Edidem, assigned the Chairman of the Market Union with the responsibility of ensuring that the drainage systems remain unobstructed.
