The Kwara State House of Assembly has requested Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq to instruct the state Ministry of Energy to investigate complaints regarding the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC). The Assembly aims to address concerns of poor service delivery and the extortionate behavior exhibited by IBEDC staff.

During the recent plenary session, the legislature passed a resolution emphasizing the importance of the investigation. It seeks to provide an opportunity for residents of Kwara State to express their complaints and grievances openly. Additionally, the Assembly intends to engage with IBEDC management to obtain clarifications regarding the allegations against the company.

Furthermore, the House urged the electricity distribution company to ensure the provision of reliable pre-paid meters for consumers in Kwara State. They also demanded an immediate halt to estimated billing practices.

To facilitate effective service delivery, the Assembly directed the House Committee on Energy to communicate with IBEDC management in the state. The committee’s objective is to address concerns related to the arbitrary billing system and other relevant matters.

Ganiyu Folabi Salau initiated the debate and presented the motion. He expressed concern over the inadequate metering system and unethical practices of IBEDC officers. Despite the silence of Kwarans on these issues, recent frequent power outages have deprived them of the services they have paid for, resulting in significant dissatisfaction.
