The Katsina State Independent Electoral Commission (SIEC) has officially declared the date for the upcoming Local Government Elections in the state. The announcement was made during a press briefing held at the Commission’s Head Office near the Old Government House in G.R.A, Katsina.

Led by Chairman Alhaji Lawal Alhassan Faskari, the SIEC outlined its preparations for the elections, which are scheduled to take place on Saturday, February 15, 2025. During the briefing, the Chairman emphasized the crucial role of free and fair elections in the democratic process. The official timetable and election guidelines will be distributed to all stakeholders in due course to ensure transparency and adherence to the electoral process.

Chairman Faskari stated, “All interested and qualified candidates from registered Political Parties in the State are free to contest the post of the Chairmanship and Councillorship after meeting all the requirements as contained in the Guidelines, which will be distributed to all stakeholders for guidance and compliance.”

Representatives from various political parties, civil society organizations, and election monitoring groups were present at the briefing. The interactive session provided an opportunity for the commission to address queries and concerns raised by the attendees.

With the date officially announced, the public is encouraged to actively participate in the democratic process. Chairman Faskari emphasized the importance of citizens exercising their right to vote and called on all stakeholders to contribute to a successful and peaceful election.

“We appeal to all security agents in the State to provide adequate security coverage throughout the process, especially in the frontline Local Government Areas with security challenges. We also urge citizens in the State to be law-abiding and reject any form of violence during the process,” Faskari concluded.
