Injury Blow for Haller Days After AFCON Victory
Borussia Dortmund Hit by Blow as Sebastien Haller Faces Extended Absence
Borussia Dortmund has announced that Sebastien Haller will be sidelined for “several weeks” due to a recurring ankle injury. The club revealed the setback on Friday after examinations in Dortmund detected a flare-up of the ankle issue Haller suffered in mid-December against Mainz.
Sebastien Haller, who secured victory for Ivory Coast in the 2023 AFCON, joined Borussia Dortmund from Ajax on July 6, 2022. Despite overcoming testicular cancer earlier, he faced challenges, including a knee injury that nearly jeopardized his participation in the AFCON.
Before the recent injury setback, Haller managed to play 14 games for Dortmund, scoring one goal. His heroic return to Ivory Coast’s AFCON squad proved pivotal, contributing the winning goal in the final against Nigeria.
Following his return to Dortmund this week, Haller’s anticipated comeback was met with disappointment as the recurring ankle issue requires him to take another extended break for recovery.
