Vicky Umodu, a Nigerian woman living in San Bernardino, California, exhibited remarkable integrity when she returned a staggering sum of $37,500 (approximately N14.9 million) she found hidden in chairs she got for free. Umodu had recently moved to a new house and was in need of furniture, prompting her to turn to Craigslist for options. She came across an advertisement offering free furniture from a family disposing of items belonging to a deceased relative.

Upon receiving the furniture, Umodu discovered the hidden cash inside one of the chairs. In her words, she recounted the moment of discovery as both shocking and overwhelming. Despite the temptation to keep the money, Umodu’s sense of honesty prevailed. She immediately contacted the family that gave her the chairs and returned the entire sum.

In her words;

“I just moved in, and I don’t have anything in my house. I was so excited, so we picked it up and brought it in. ‘I was just telling my son, ‘Come, come, come!’ I was screaming, ‘This is money! I need to call the guy!’”

The family, touched by Umodu’s action, showed their gratitude by gifting her $2,250 (around N900,000) as a reward for her honesty. Umodu expressed her contentment and gratitude, stating, “God has been kind to me and my children. They’re all alive and well. I have three beautiful grandchildren, so what can I ever ask from God?”
