Homeless Nigerian Tennis Champion, Tanya Okpala, Seen on the Streets of Awka
Tanya Okpala, a Nigerian tennis champion who represented the country in the 1990s, has garnered attention and sympathy online after being discovered homeless, wandering the streets of Awka.
Having competed for Nigeria in female tennis sports competitions during the 90s, Tanya Okpala’s current state of homelessness came as a shock to fans and the general Nigerian public.
After being spotted on the streets, she was interviewed by an individual who recounted her ramblings about societal rejection due to her mixed-race heritage. Tanya Okpala has been subjected to leering and judgment from society for being a half-caste.
In her desperate circumstances, she has resorted to begging for alms, as she can be heard asking for money to purchase a bottle of water.
