On Monday, a delegation from Mali and Burkina Faso is set to arrive in Niger’s capital, Niamey, as a display of solidarity during the ongoing coup crisis, according to an announcement made by the Malian army via a tweet.

The tweet reads, “Burkinaannouncement in a tweet Faso and Mali are sending a delegation to Niamey to show the solidarity of the two countries with the brotherly people of Niger.” 

The transitional governments of Burkina Faso and Mali, established following military takeovers in 2020 and 2022 respectively, have expressed their backing for the Nigerien soldiers who orchestrated the overthrow of President Mohamed Bazoum.

Additionally, both countries issued a warning that any military intervention in Niger would be seen as a declaration of war against them, leading to their withdrawal from the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS). ECOWAS, a regional political and economic union comprising 15 West African countries, has threatened to restore order in Niger through the use of force.
