Ahmad Gumi, a controversial Islamic cleric, has revealed that he had a productive discussion with security agencies regarding strategies to address the issue of bandits and their activities in the Northern region.

This development follows the statement made by the Minister of Information and Orientation, Mohammed Idris, who mentioned that Gumi would be summoned for questioning regarding his involvement with the activities of bandits in the North. The minister emphasized that Gumi is not exempt from the law and would face consequences if his comments were deemed reckless by security agencies.

However, the Islamic cleric, based in Kaduna, asserted that only the innocent should be considered above the law.

In a post on his Facebook page on Tuesday, Gumi clarified the situation, stating, “There is absolutely no need for alarm. Last night, I received numerous calls from well-wishers and journalists regarding news that I was interviewed by security officials. Yes, we had a productive discussion on how to combat banditry, as we all strive, each in our own capacity, to tackle this menace that plagues our nation. The interaction was conducted with courtesy, respect, and no animosity.”

He further emphasized the importance of national unity and working together in synergy to achieve lasting peace in the country.

Recently, Gumi had urged President Bola Tinubu to join him in negotiating with the bandits.
