Governor Sim Fubara of Rivers State has provided an explanation regarding Edison Ehie’s resignation as the Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly.

Fubara stated that Ehie’s decision to step down was motivated by the desire to promote peace in the state. The announcement was made during a gathering in Port Harcourt, which included esteemed attendees such as former governor Peter Odili and his wife, Mary.

Fubara emphasized that the actions taken were driven by the pursuit of peace and the well-being of the people, rather than personal gain or power. The resignation of the speaker was viewed as a means to contribute to a peaceful resolution of the ongoing crisis in the state. The governor highlighted the importance of considering the legacy left behind for the people of Rivers State.

Ehie, who is known for his loyalty to Governor Fubara, resigned both as a lawmaker and as the Speaker of the state’s assembly. The decision was made in the midst of the conflict between Governor Fubara and Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). Ehie’s resignation letter, addressed to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), was dated December 29, 2023.
