Hajara Ibrahim Dan’azumi, a 19-year-old woman from Gombe State, has been awarded a Hajj seat by the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) for her victory in the International Qur’anic Competition held in Jordan from February 17 to 22, 2024.

Hajara emerged as the first-place winner at the 18th edition of the esteemed Hashemite Jordan International Qur’anic Competition for Females, an annual event organized by the Ministry of Endowments, Islamic Affairs, and Holy Places of Jordan.

Representing Nigeria in the 60 Hizb with Tajwid category, Hajara, a student at Abubakar Siddiq Community Islamic School in Gombe and a 200 Level Botany student at Gombe State University, scored an impressive 99.5%. She outshined participants from 39 other countries.

In a congratulatory message to Gombe State Governor Alhaji Inuwa Yahaya, NAHCON Chairman Malam Jalal Arabi expressed his delight at Hajara’s exceptional performance. During a special reception hosted by the state government, Arabi, represented by his Personal Assistant, Usman Nuraini, announced the award of a Hajj seat for 2024 to the winner.

“The NAHCON chairman’s recognition of Hajara’s performance aligns with his commitment to rewarding hard work and excellence. Malam Arabi believes that acknowledging such achievements will inspire others to follow suit and promote the values of Islam,” the statement read.

Governor Yahaya, during the ceremony, rewarded Hajara’s outstanding achievement with a gift of N5 million. Additionally, he offered her a full scholarship package from undergraduate to Ph.D. studies and a further N5 million award to enhance the operations and effectiveness of her Islamic school.
