Forbes Africa’s Billionaire List – Dangote Reclaims First Place from Rupert

Aliko Dangote has reclaimed his position as the wealthiest individual in Africa, according to Forbes Real-Time Billionaires, just a few days after losing the title. The real-time ranking, which continuously updates the confirmed billionaires’ net worth and rankings, shows that Dangote’s wealth increased by $10 million, reaching $10.1 billion as of January 8, 2024.

He surpassed Johann Rupert, a South African tycoon in the luxury goods industry, and his family. Rupert’s net worth on January 8 was $10 billion, down from $10.7 billion on December 30, 2023.

Dangote, who serves as the CEO of Dangote Group, is now ranked 191st globally, while Rupert and his family hold the 197th position.

The Bloomberg Billionaires Index also recognizes Dangote as the wealthiest person in Africa.

According to Bloomberg, the majority of Dangote’s fortune comes from his 86 percent stake in publicly traded Dangote Cement. He directly owns shares in the company and also holds them through his conglomerate, Dangote Industries.
