Alhaji Yahaya Abubakar, the Etsu Nupe and chairman of the Niger State Council of Traditional Rulers, has called on governments at all levels to prioritize commercial education.

He emphasized the need to teach various skills in order to reduce the emphasis on seeking white-collar jobs after graduation.

The Etsu Nupe made this appeal during the official commissioning of a four-classroom block, offices, and modern toilets, which were built by Sunti Sugar Company at a cost of N27 million. The facilities were donated to Saint Mathias Anglican School in the Kusogi community of Mokwa local government area in Niger State.

Representing the Etsu Nupe, Alhaji Baiwa Mohammed, the Ndacheko Nupe, explained that by exposing students to commercial education from an early age, they would become employers of labor instead of job seekers.

He called on all levels of government, parents, and corporate organizations to prioritize education as the fastest and most effective way to achieve rapid national development. He also urged parents in the Kusogi Community to enroll their children in the school to acquire a Western education, emphasizing the importance of prioritizing girl child education to prevent their marginalization in society.

The Etsu Nupe expressed appreciation to the management of Sunti Sugar for their generous contribution to the community.

Anlo Du Pisani, the general manager of Sunti Sugar Company, stated that the project was part of the company’s corporate social responsibility to promote development and ensure peaceful coexistence between the company and the community.

Following the commissioning of the project, Alhaji Jibrin Abdullahi Muregi, the chairman of Mokwa LGA, directed the Education Secretary of the council to provide 50 chairs and tables to the school. He also approved the immediate deployment of teachers to the school to support the efforts of the sugar company.
