The Enugu State Government has decided to delay the reopening of one lane of the collapsed Enugu-Port Harcourt Expressway Bridge based on expert advice.

Following the recommendation of the project manager, Mr. Mohammed Fadi, the government has chosen not to reopen the bridge until it is fully completed for safety reasons.

The Commissioner for Information and Communication, Aka-Eze Aka, made this announcement in a statement released in Enugu on Monday. The decision comes after the Commissioner for Works, Gerald Otiji, previously stated that one lane of the bridge would be reopened during the Yuletide celebrations to alleviate traffic congestion.

However, Aka clarified that the bridge will no longer be reopened as initially planned. Instead, it will be completed and subsequently undergo a series of integrity tests to ensure it is suitable for public use, as advised by experts.
