Former Belgium captain, Eden Hazard, recently shared the story of how he ended up joining Chelsea despite not initially considering the club.

Hazard, who enjoyed a successful stint at Stamford Bridge, scoring 110 goals and providing 92 assists in 352 games over seven seasons, revealed the circumstances that led to his decision.

While reflecting on his options, Hazard had discussions with Sir Alex Ferguson, then the manager of Manchester United, and Harry Redknapp, who was managing Tottenham at the time. He even visited Manchester City’s training ground. However, Chelsea wasn’t initially on his radar.

Hazard explained, “I had a few options, but not Chelsea because the last year in Lille, Chelsea in the league was not that good. You know when you [John Obi Mikel] won the Champions League, in the league you were like sixth or seventh, I don’t remember.”

He emphasized that his desire to play in the Champions League was a significant factor in his decision-making process. It was the success of Chelsea in winning the Champions League that ultimately swayed him towards the London club.

“So that move came because you won the Champions League,” Hazard concluded, while speaking on The Obi One Podcast.
