Deyemi Okanlawon reflects on his early career struggles, shares profound message, and pays homage to veteran Kunle Bantefa

Nollywood actor Deyemi Okanlawon is reminiscing about his early days in the entertainment industry while paying tribute to veteran actor Kunle Bantefa.

Taking to his Instagram page, Deyemi shared a photo of himself alongside Kunle Bantefa, as he recounted his introduction to the world of filming at the age of 8 or 9.

He revealed that his first on-set experience was for a family commercial, in which renowned actress Sola Sobowale portrayed his mother, and his brother Detola Okanlawon played his sibling. However, Deyemi admits that he ended up embarrassing himself by struggling with his lines and shedding tears.

Kunle Bantefa, who portrayed his father in the commercial, is described by Deyemi as an incredibly friendly individual. He notes that the veteran actor always wore a smile on his face, a trait that he still possesses to this day.

The first time I ever stepped on a film set I was about 8/9 years old. It was for a family planning commercial produced by the legendary Femi Jarett. I remember Mummy @solasobowale played my mother, @detolaokanlawon played my brother (crying cos he couldn’t get his lines and disgracing me)… and there was a man who played my dad who I thought then was the friendliest giant ever. Daddy Kunle Bantefa always had a smile on his face, and still does!

Lesson: Just like with Christ, the gifts or talents God has placed inside you will start to show from an early age but the world will fight to suppress it. Get still and quiet while you take a mental journey down memory lane and perhaps you may be reminded of the greatness that is already in you”.
