Demise of Ondo APC Governorship Aspirant, Akintelure

Paul Akintelure, a prominent governorship aspirant of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo State, has tragically passed away. Akintelure had expressed concerns about threats to his life, both directly and indirectly, prior to his untimely demise.

In a statement made on Thursday, March 21, 2023, Akintelure shared his hope that the situation would improve over time. He stated, “Initially, I had hoped that these incidents would gradually subside, but unfortunately, they have escalated to pose a serious threat to my well-being. Despite these threats, my determination to stand up for what is right and just remains unwavering. I refuse to let fear dictate our path forward. Let us embrace peace, progress, and unity, as our collective strength lies in standing together, regardless of our differences.”

Akintelure previously served as the deputy governorship candidate of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) alongside Rotimi Akeredolu, who is now the incumbent governor of Ondo State. They contested against Olusegun Mimiko, the Labour Party flagbearer, in an election that Mimiko ultimately won.

Additionally, Akintelure had previously participated in a senatorial election on the platform of the APC but was unsuccessful in his bid. He was a respected medical doctor hailing from Igbotako in the Okitipupa Local Government Area of Ondo State.

This unfortunate event takes place during the intensifying preparations for the Ondo governorship election.
