Edwin Clark, the leader of the Ijaw Nation, expressed skepticism regarding the possibility of mercenaries being responsible for the recent killing of soldiers in Delta State. While emphasizing the need to question the leaders of the communities involved, Clark emphasized that no one should be exempt from investigation.

In an interview on Arise Television’s News programme, Clark reiterated his earlier condemnation of the incident, describing it as shocking, barbaric, and wicked. He suggested that the military and the communities affected should collaborate in identifying and apprehending the perpetrators.

Clark stated, “It is difficult to believe. I don’t think we should expect such a thing. Let’s reflect on ourselves. I spoke to the Lieutenant Colonel on Thursday, and he went to the place on Thursday and died. Unless they had information that they were going to Okuama, nobody knew they were going there.”

Regarding the possibility of external forces ambushing the soldiers, Clark emphasized the importance of investigation. While acknowledging that no possibilities should be ruled out, he stressed the need for introspection within the community.

He further emphasized the need to gather the leaders of the respective communities involved and engage them in the process of finding answers. Clark asserted that no one should receive preferential treatment or be considered exempt from scrutiny.

“As an Ijaw man, I will be the last person to allow this matter to escalate into intercommunal conflicts or fights,” Clark added, highlighting his commitment to preventing further tensions within the region.
