In a tragic incident, a chief imam named Sani Idris and an Okada rider named Muhammad Gambo were reportedly killed in a fresh attack in Bakkos Local Government Area of Plateau State.

This incident occurred shortly after a series of attacks across 23 communities in the same LGA resulted in the loss of over 150 lives.

Garba Abdullahi, the chairman of the Gan Allah Fulani Development Association (GAFDAN), confirmed the attack on Wednesday. He revealed that the slain cleric served as the Chief Imam of the Jumma’at Mosque in Ndun village, Tangur District, Bokkos Local Government Area.

According to Abdullahi, the chief imam and his younger brother were attacked on Monday when they visited the community to retrieve some belongings that were left behind during the recent attacks, which saw the houses of their fellow community members burned down. The assailants launched the attack unexpectedly, leading to the death of the imam and leaving his younger brother with machete wounds.

This incident follows a Christmas Eve attack in Bakkos LGA, where gunmen targeted the area and claimed the lives of numerous villagers. The repeated occurrences of these attacks have drawn public outcry, with many expressing dissatisfaction with the government’s failure to protect the lives of its citizens.

Despite the Nigeria Police Force’s initiation of a special operation, the cycle of violence in the area continues to persist.
