Ayra Starr, a Nigerian singer, has issued an apology to the renowned singer King Sunny Ade following criticism she received for disrespecting him at an event.

According to a recent report by Vistanaij Media, Ayra Starr faced online backlash for her disrespectful behaviour towards King Sunny Ade and the mother of Grammy-winning singer Burna Boy.

In a video that went viral, Ayra Starr, wearing a revealing outfit, was seen at the same event as the two musicians. In the clip, she ignored Burna Boy’s mother while greeting a woman seated nearby. She then proceeded to shake hands with King Sunny Ade, a gesture that was perceived as disrespectful by several individuals, including actor Adeniyi Johnson and his wife, Seyi Edun.

Taking to Twitter, Ayra Starr expressed a sincere apology and provided an explanation for her actions. She mentioned that the lighting at the event hindered her visibility, but once she realized her mistake, she promptly returned to greet them. Ayra Starr emphasises that she has never been disrespectful and considers herself a well-mannered Yoruba girl.

“I’m so sorry, I had just walked in and all the lights and nerves didn’t let me see but I came back around to greet everyone properly, I have never been that girl to be disrespectful, I’m a proper Yoruba girl and the video didn’t start until after I’d greeted burna’s mom! I’m very sorry to the legend, uncle, and King Sunny Ade”.
