The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) at Abia State University Uturu has decided to suspend its strike action after seven days of downing tools.

The union made this decision during an emergency congress held at the university’s main campus in Uturu, where the academic staff resolved to return to their classrooms.

Dr. Chidi Slessor Mba, the chairman of ASUU at the university, confirmed the development. He stated that Governor Alex Otti has shown commitment to addressing the union’s demands, which primarily focused on the payment of 11-month salary arrears and other related matters, by inviting them for a dialogue. Mbah expressed confidence that the governor would fulfill the union’s demands in a timely manner.

Students who had returned from the Christmas and New Year holidays expressed their relief at the news of the strike being called off, as it would have disrupted their academic calendar.

It is worth noting that Mba Ukariwo, the chairman of the Governing Council of Abia State University, had previously appealed to ASUU members at the institution to end the strike and engage in dialogue to address their concerns.
