Following the tragic Christmas Eve attacks in various communities of Plateau State, which resulted in the loss of over a hundred lives, the Plateau Youth Liberation Movement has called upon opposition politicians to refrain from politicizing the issue of insecurity.

The group also urged the public to support the current administration’s efforts in the state to promote peaceful coexistence.

In a press statement signed by Joshua Jephta, the convener of the movement, and made available to journalists in Jos, the state capital, the group expressed deep sadness over the brutal and unprovoked attacks on communities in Bokkos and Barkin-Ladi local government areas.

According to the statement, more than 84 communities were targeted, resulting in the loss of 195 lives, including women and children. Additionally, approximately 1,300 houses were burnt down, and properties worth millions were destroyed. Over 100 injured individuals are currently receiving treatment in various hospitals across the state.

The Plateau Youth Liberation Movement emphasized the need for all stakeholders in the state to unite in the face of this common enemy and commended Governor Caleb Mutfwang for his proactive measures in ensuring the safety of lives and properties. The statement highlighted the governor’s visit to President Bola Tinubu in Lagos, which led to a federal government delegation, headed by Vice President Kashim Shettima, being sent to the state. The group expressed gratitude for the vice president’s consoling words and the assurance of justice for the victims, as well as the directive for immediate relief by the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA).

While acknowledging the state government’s efforts in providing assistance to the displaced and funding medical bills for those injured, the group appealed to the opposition party and critics to avoid politicizing the ongoing security situation. They emphasized the importance of prioritizing human lives over political gains.

The group further stated that Governor Mutfwang has called on the federal government to provide special support for the victims, enabling them to return and resettle in their communities. They urged the National Assembly to include funds for the victims’ resettlement in the 2024 budget.

In conclusion, the Plateau Youth Liberation Movement called upon all residents of the state to support the governor’s endeavors in ensuring the security of all parts of Plateau State.
