Wuro-Chekke, a residential community located in Yola South Local Government Area of Adamawa State, has implemented a ban on scavengers operating within its territory.

Furthermore, the community’s leadership has imposed restrictions on entry after 11 pm, requiring individuals to seek prior permission.

During a stakeholders’ meeting held on Monday, community vigilante operatives and community leaders were tasked with enforcing these measures immediately.

The village head of Wuro-Chekke, Alhaji Sa’ad Mohammed, issued the order following discussions during the meeting, which primarily focused on the recent abduction of an architect and a journalist residing in the community.

Usman Sahabi, a journalist working for the Adamawa Broadcasting Corporation, was abducted from his home in Wuro-Chekke two weeks ago. He spent six days in captivity before being released. These incidents have prompted the community to take proactive steps to address the issue of security. 

The village head of Wuro-Chekke emphasized the collective responsibility of all community members to prioritize security and ensure the safety of the community. He urged residents to actively support vigilantes, the police, and other security agencies by providing them with crucial information that can help drive away criminals from the community.

Additionally, the village head issued a stern warning to those who aid criminals as informants, urging them to cease their activities or consider relocating from the community.

During the meeting, the Divisional Police Officer in charge of Yola South, Mohammed Sani, and the Divisional Crime Officer of Wuro-Chekke, Gabriel Markus, both called for the support of the public in order to effectively combat criminal activities. They highlighted the importance of community cooperation in their efforts to maintain security.
