Actress Simi Gold allegedly sentenced to 6 months in prison

Nollywood actress Simi Gold has reportedly been sentenced to six months’ imprisonment for the act of spraying new Naira notes. The conviction and sentence were announced by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in a released statement. Simi Gold was found guilty of spraying the new Naira notes during a social event held in Lagos.

The legal proceedings began on February 13, 2023, when Simi Gold was initially arraigned on two counts related to the offense. During the arraignment, she pleaded not guilty to the charges and was subsequently granted bail just two days later.

However, on January 28, 2023, the court determined that Simi Gold had engaged in the act of dancing on 100,000 Naira notes, which were issued by the Central Bank of Nigeria. This act was considered a punishable offense under the law.

As the evidence against her grew stronger, Simi Gold decided to change her plea from not guilty to guilty. Following her guilty plea, she went through the necessary legal processes, and after further investigation, she was given two options. She could either pay a fine of 300,000 Naira or face a six-month prison sentence.
