Former Military Head of State, Abdulsalami Abubakar, has expressed his dissatisfaction with the current N30,000 minimum wage in Nigeria, deeming it unacceptable in the present circumstances.

Abdulsalami made a plea to President Bola Tinubu, urging him to consider increasing the minimum wage. He emphasized that N30,000 is inadequate to foster meaningful human development in any part of the world.

Speaking at the inaugural Peace, Unity, and Reconciliation Summit organized by the Taraba Independent Peace Committee in Jalingo, the capital of Taraba State, Abdulsalami’s message was delivered by Rev Fr Atah Bakindo, the head of the secretariat of the Kukah Centre and National Peace Committee.

He called upon Nigerians to utilize the resources within their localities to enhance their standard of living, while stressing the urgent need to raise wages for the betterment of national growth.

Abdulsalami also urged the people of Taraba State to reconcile any differences that have led to conflicts and disunity. He emphasized that peace and unity are essential foundations for development, particularly highlighting the fortunate presence of natural resources in the state.

The appeal from Abdulsalami underscores the importance of a higher minimum wage that can adequately support the well-being and development of Nigerians.
