Yakubu Garba, the Deputy Governor of Niger State, has revealed that the combined impact of flooding and banditry has resulted in the displacement of more than 6,000 individuals across the state.

During his visit to Engr Mustapha Habib Ahmed, the Director-General of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) in Abuja on Thursday, Garba emphasized the urgency of NEMA’s assistance in addressing these challenges.

He highlighted that flooding has been inflicting significant destruction within the state, underscoring the need for collaborative efforts to mitigate its effects.

According to him, “Niger State has been having issues of insecurity of which I can’t disclose here.

“Aside from that, the weather forecast of this year showed adverse consequences of flooding, which we have been witnessing in Niger State.” 

He additionally clarified that the State government had raised awareness among residents in the impacted regions, advising them to relocate to more secure locations to prevent falling victim to the flood.

In response, the Director-General of NEMA, Ahmed, provided reassurance that the agency stood prepared to provide humanitarian aid to states grappling with crises across the nation.
