This problem of Jamb cut off mark for all the Universities and Polytechnics in Nigeria is the most controversial subject we have been hearing. This mighty be as a result of the fact that Jamb has become a major means in gaining admission now. Post-UTME Used to be the backbone to gain Admission.

With every passing year,  Jamb aspirant complained that they score very high and even above the school cut off mark but was not given admission to study their desired course neither they was been given a different course.

What comes to our mind at this very point, what is Jamb general cut off mark and what does it actually mean?

As you continue reading you will see why and guide on Jamb general cut off mark and Individual Cut off for Universities and Polytechnics in Nigeria.

JAMB GENERAL CUT OFF MARK

Immediately after the release of results, the performance of applicant that applied for various Universities and Polytechnics in Nigeria are being analyzed by Jamb board.

This is to make them agree for a particular cut off mark that will qualify candidates to go for screening in their various institutions of choice.

Jamb officials will now announce the cut off for Universities as 180 while that of polytechnics to be 160. In fact, I saw on Jamb website longtime ago that they are now working on a general cut off mark for all institutions.

However, the general cut off mark doesn’t guaranty that you will  be you admission that year. It only qualifies you to go for the stage which is screening by the Universities  and polytechnics.

You hear persons say things like, I passed Jamb but I wasn’t offered admission. This is because, the number of candidates who scored above the cut off were far more than the carrying capacity of the institutions.

THE JAMB CUT OFF MARK THAT GUARANTY YOU ADMISSION?

Now, the various institutions compile the list of those who chose them as first and second choice, then send the names to different Faculties in the school and generate departmental cut off based on the performance of candidates and the carrying capacity of the faculty.

It is the school that sends the names of those to be admitted to Jamb. This is how you get your Jamb admission status.

Other factors like grades in SSCE result and physical screening score also act as a factors in gaining admission.

SAME SCORE WITH A FRIEND BUT HE GAINED ADMISSION

The departmental cut off mark for different schools vary. In fact, it varies for the departments in a faculty. For example, the cut off mark for medicine in Uniben may be 285 while it could be 240 for Covenant University.

The guy that scores 280 in Uniben may not get Medicine that particular year while the Covenant University merits it with a score of 240. There is always advantage in choosing a less competitive School.

In Engineering, Electrical and Mechanical generally have the highest cut off mark. The more competitive your course is, the higher your cut off. Strive to score very high.
