The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, presented ten vehicles to third-class chiefs in the federal capital on a Friday, alongside a promise of enhanced welfare for these traditional leaders.
Among these recipients, the third-class chiefs hailed from chiefdoms such as Gomani, Yaba, Bwari, Pai, Garki, Jiwa, Wako, Rubochi, Gwagwalada, and Zuba, as reported by NAN.
During the handover of Nissan Semi SUV keys to the traditional rulers in Abuja, Wike explained that this act was in line with the government’s commitment to facilitate the mobility of these traditional leaders. He emphasized the importance of ensuring their convenience, stating, “Part of that is mobility. I can’t see how traditional rulers will be boarding taxis or entering public transportation. That is unacceptable.”
Wike further revealed that President Bola Tinubu had directed against such inconveniences and had urged comprehensive measures to make the roles of these leaders more convenient. In line with President Tinubu’s renewed agenda, Wike stressed that every stakeholder, including traditional rulers, had a crucial role to play, particularly in enhancing security.
Recognizing the unique knowledge of their communities, Wike urged the traditional rulers to identify potential strangers and support the fight against insecurity. He underlined the necessity of collaboration, stating, “No agency will perform its function without the support of traditional rulers, and we believe that we must partner together to achieve the fight against insecurity.”
In summary, Wike pledged to work collectively with the traditional rulers and symbolically handed over ten vehicles to aid them in supporting the government’s efforts to combat insecurity within their domains, reiterating the significance of unity in achieving tangible results in the fight against insecurity.
