Former Minister of Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola, SAN, has explained his decision not to seek a political appointment, stating that he is making way for the next generation to step into such roles.
Fashola emphasized that he doesn’t require an official title to serve in the administration led by President Bola Tinubu.
Fashola, who served as a two-term minister of works in the previous administration, was widely expected to hold a prominent position in the current government. However, despite his close association with President Bola Tinubu, he has not been included in the numerous appointments made by the new government thus far.
In an interview with the Vistanaij Media, Fashola emphasized the importance of introducing more exceptional individuals with a strong commitment to public service into key roles as times change. He expressed his desire to witness greater involvement of young people in the current administration, highlighting the need for fresh and dynamic perspectives.
He said, “I do not need a title to serve; the President can only appoint at least one minister, for example, from each state which he has done.
“All of us must play our roles as citizens, and a citizen does not need a title to serve.
“We are also talking about the next generation.
“If some do not move on, where is the place for the next batch?”
