U.S. District Judge Nancy Maldonado has agreed to delay the release of certain academic records of Bola Tinubu, the current President of Nigeria, by Chicago State University (CSU).
Magistrate Judge Jeffrey Gilbert had initially ordered CSU to provide the documents within two days, but an emergency hearing on Thursday led to a postponement.
During the emergency hearing, Judge Maldonado instructed both sides to file additional arguments by the following Thursday. Lawyers representing President Tinubu argued that Gilbert’s decision needed to be reviewed by a district judge, and Judge Maldonado granted their request.
She mentioned her commitment to following proper legal processes and rules and emphasized the importance of getting the case right, acknowledging the significance of the matter at hand.
President Tinubu had filed an Emergency Motion requesting a delay in the release of his academic records until at least Monday, September 25th. This request came after the Chicago Court ordered CSU to provide all records related to Tinubu’s studentship to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar within two days. Atiku has contested Tinubu’s claim of graduating from CSU, and he filed an application seeking the documents to verify Tinubu’s eligibility for the presidential election.
