The United Nations has acknowledged the valuable insights that can be gleaned from Yobe State’s approach to resettling displaced individuals during emergency situations.
Mr. Robert Piper, the Special Adviser to the UN Secretary-General, made this observation during a courtesy visit to Yobe Governor Mai Mala Buni in Abuja on Friday.
In a statement issued by Governor Buni’s media aide, Mamman Mohammed, it was highlighted that the UN Envoy emphasized the significant achievement of Yobe in the early management and dignified resettlement of displaced persons. This accomplishment has positioned the state as an exemplary model for effectively addressing emergency situations.
“We have a lot to learn and share from the Yobe State experience,” remarked Mr. Piper. The Special Adviser to the UN Secretary-General pledged to organize a team to visit the state for a deeper study of Yobe’s approach and explore opportunities for collaboration.
In response, Governor Buni highlighted his administration’s swift efforts to reintegrate displaced individuals into their communities, enabling them to lead dignified lives rather than residing in Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) camps. He emphasized, “We embarked on a reconstruction, rehabilitation, and recovery process for the displaced persons to return to their communities and live with dignity.”
