In the communities of Amiyi/Eke Ochuche in Ogbaru Local Government Area of Anambra State, unknown gunmen have reportedly killed two police officers and two staff members of the US Consulate. Tragically, the attackers also set their bodies on fire. The victims, who were on a humanitarian mission, fell victim to an ambush by the gunmen, resulting in their deaths.
During the incident, which occurred around 3:30 pm on Tuesday, some individuals managed to escape from the scene but sustained injuries in the process. In response to the attack, a joint operation involving security forces has been launched to rescue and recover those involved.
According to DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, spokesperson for the Anambra Police Command, the convoy of US Consulate staff was attacked along the Atani-Osamale road. Two officers from the Police Mobile Force and two Consulate staff members were tragically murdered and their bodies set on fire, along with their vehicles. The assailants, upon seeing the approaching joint security forces, abducted two police operatives and the driver of the second vehicle before fleeing the scene. It is important to note that no US citizens were present in the convoy at the time of the attack.
