President Bola Tinubu is scheduled to depart from Abuja, the capital of Nigeria, on Sunday to participate in the 2023 United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York, United States of America.
This confirmation was provided by Ajuri Ngelale, the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, during an announcement on Friday. Ngelale revealed that, in addition to his participation in the UNGA’s main proceedings, the President would engage with significant global economic stakeholders.
Apart from the formal UNGA activities, a series of crucial side events are anticipated, which will have substantial implications for Nigeria’s economy. Following President Tinubu’s successful trip to the G-20 Summit in New Delhi and the substantial foreign investments attracted to Nigeria, his focus remains steadfast on advancing economic development and attracting foreign direct investment.
The President is set to hold meetings with prominent chief executives and leaders of multinational corporations, including Brad Smith, President of Microsoft Company Worldwide; Sir Nick Clegg, President of Global Affairs for Meta Technologies; and the CEOs of General Electric and Exxon Mobil. Furthermore, bilateral meetings with the Presidents of the United States, Comoros, South Africa, and the European Union Commission are also on the agenda.
President Tinubu’s itinerary extends to meetings with the Prime Ministers of Spain and the Netherlands, the King of Jordan, and the Presidents of Algeria and Brazil. Ngelale emphasized that the schedule may evolve, but it is evident that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will play an active and sought-after role in both bilateral and multilateral discussions during his brief stay in New York, making him one of the most active heads of state at the event.
