Tinubu enacts the Judicial Officers Uniform Retirement Age Bill into law

On Thursday, President Bola Tinubu exercised his constitutional powers as stipulated in the 1999 Constitution, as amended, by assenting to a newly amended Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

This significant action took place at the State House and occurred within the first eleven days of his tenure as Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces.

The President signed into law the “Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (Fifth Alteration) (No.37), 2023” presented by the outgoing 9th National Assembly.

By signing the Constitutional Amendment Bill, the retirement age and pension rights of judicial officers have now been harmonized and standardized. This action ensures uniformity in these aspects and addresses other related matters as well.

During the signing of the amendment Bill into law, Tinubu expressed his administration’s commitment to enhancing the judiciary, upholding the rule of law, and empowering judicial officers to carry out their duties with efficiency and effectiveness.
