Third Mainland Bridge to Temporarily Close for 24 Hours, Government Announces

The Federal Government has declared that the Third Mainland Bridge will be closed for a period of 24 hours, affecting Iyana Oworonshoki-Lagos Island-bound traffic.

The closure will commence from midnight on Sunday, February 18, until midnight on Monday, February 19. Mrs. Olukorede Kesha, the Federal Controller of Works in Lagos State, conveyed this information in a statement released on Saturday evening.

According to Kesha, this emergency measure has been undertaken to facilitate crucial repairs on a significant section of the bridge. However, motorists traveling from the Island and heading towards Oworonshoki will continue to have unrestricted access to the bridge throughout the 24-hour closure.

“The Federal Government, through the Federal Ministry of Works, wishes to notify the public that the Third Mainland Bridge in Lagos will be closed to motorists bound for Lagos Island from Iyana Oworonshoki for a duration of 24 hours. The closure will commence from 12:00 am on Sunday, February 18th and conclude at 12:00 am on Monday, February 19, 2024. Normal traffic will resume on this route from Monday at 12:00 am,” stated Kesha.

To facilitate effective repairs on this vital section of the bridge, Kesha advised motorists to utilize alternative routes, comply with traffic regulations, and exercise patience as the government continues its efforts to restore the integrity of this crucial infrastructure.

In light of this development, motorists traveling towards Lagos Island are urged to consider alternative routes, including Ojota-Ikorodu Road-Funsho Williams Avenue-Eko Bridge-Apogbon-CMS.
