The Jigawa State government has affirmed its commitment to considering only the inputs of its citizens in the formulation of the 2024 budget.
This declaration was made by Alhaji Babangida Umar Gantsa, the state’s commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, during a town hall meeting focused on the 2024 budget and involving stakeholders.
The event, held on Tuesday at the State Secretariat in Dutse, was a collaborative effort between the Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning and the Exceptional Leadership and Integrity Promotion Initiative (ELIP). Gantsa emphasized the significance of this meeting as a vital platform for civic engagement, enabling citizens to directly contribute their insights regarding priorities, with a strong emphasis on transparency and accountability.
In his words, “the Jigawa government places great importance on the inputs of its citizens in the annual budget preparation for the development of the State.”
Comrade Isah Mustapha, the Executive Director of ELIP, encouraged citizens to prioritize quality considerations over quantity in their budgetary suggestions, emphasizing the importance of this approach for the State’s development. He also lauded the Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning for embracing citizen input as a means to uphold transparency and accountability in the budgetary process.
