Vice President Kashim Shettima inaugurated the ‘Skillnovation Programme’ on Friday, aiming to equip over three million Nigerians with crucial digital skills for the information technology revolution.
Shettima launched the program at the Banquet Hall of the Presidential Villa in Abuja, emphasizing that it’s part of the government’s efforts to ensure citizens thrive in the global economy.
The Skillnovation Programme will establish 15 state-of-the-art Information Communication Technology Centres strategically positioned across the country. This initiative will provide individuals and businesses with access to cutting-edge digital training, resources, and support.
The initial phase of the program will be implemented in Katsina, Anambra, Borno, Lagos, Oyo, and Kano states, followed by the second phase in Delta, Kaduna, Ogun, Bauchi, Kwara, and Ekiti states. This expansion is expected to extend economic and social interactions and enhance productivity growth in Nigeria.
Shettima described Skillnovation as a transformative initiative that will usher in a new era of digital empowerment for Nigerians. He highlighted the importance of digital skills in today’s rapidly evolving business landscape and acknowledged Nigeria’s potential to lead business innovation across Africa.
With Nigeria’s expanding MSMEs sector of nearly 40 million, the ‘Skillnovation Programme’ aims to unlock this immense potential by providing the necessary tools and skills for MSMEs to thrive and compete globally. This initiative aligns with the government’s commitment to empower youth and MSMEs and create a more inclusive and prosperous Nigeria.
Shettima affirmed the administration’s dedication to supporting citizens in their pursuit of enhanced skills for global competitiveness.
