The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) successfully restored bulk power supply to Sokoto State by 6 pm on Saturday.
Mr. Ndidi Mbah, the General Manager of Public Affairs, confirmed this in a statement released on Sunday in Birnin Kebbi.
He assured that TCN was diligently working to extend the restoration to Kebbi and other areas affected by the unfortunate Birnin Kebbi Substation fire incident that occurred on Thursday night, September 14. The bulk power supply to Sokoto State was reestablished through the Talata Mafara Substation.
Mbah mentioned that TCN’s engineering team, along with the Managing Director/CEO and the Executive Director of Transmission Service Provider (TSP), were on-site, putting forth every effort to reconnect Kebbi and its surrounding areas to the grid through another substation.
He further explained that the engineers were actively working on transferring the load to the 150MVA and 60MVA power transformers in the substation, which fortunately remained unaffected by the fire incident. Additionally, cable rearrangements and reinforcement teams from other TCN regions had arrived at the substation with the necessary materials to expedite repair work.
The General Manager recalled the commitment of TCN’s Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Sule Abdulaziz, who expressed deep concern about the unfortunate incident at the Birnin Kebbi Substation. Abdulaziz had pledged to ensure the restoration of bulk power supply to Sokoto State through the Talata Mafara substation and to collaborate with the engineers to temporarily back-feed Kebbi while connecting the 150MVA power transformer as a permanent solution to bulk power supply in the area.
Mbah expressed TCN’s appreciation for the patience and understanding of the government and people of Sokoto and Kebbi States and their environs. He reassured that TCN was fully committed to expediting the work at the substation to ensure stable and reliable bulk electricity supply to all the affected areas
