Sylva Criticizes Goodluck Jonathan's Comment on Bayelsa Election

Timipre Sylva, the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has expressed criticism towards former President Goodluck Jonathan for his comment on the outcome of the recently concluded governorship election in Bayelsa State.

Sylva described Jonathan’s statement regarding the election as unfortunate. In the election, Governor Douye Diri of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) emerged victorious in his reelection bid.

Jonathan had congratulated Diri and expressed his belief that the victory would contribute to improving the security situation in the state. He further mentioned that if Diri had lost the election, he would have relocated his mother to Abuja.

Responding to Jonathan’s comment, Sylva questioned whether the remark was truly made by the former president. He referred to a statement by Wole Soyinka, the renowned playwright, suggesting that a hippopotamus cannot be taken out of a swamp.

Taking to X, Sylva posted his thoughts, stating, “Former President Goodluck Jonathan’s statement is unfortunate. I sincerely hope he was misquoted. Let me just quote our respected Wole Soyinka: ‘you can take the hippopotamus out of the swamp but you cannot take the swamp out of the hippopotamus.”
