According to a statement issued by the Acting Deputy Director Army Public Relations, 82 Division Nigerian Army, Jonah Unuakhalu, troops from Joint Task Force South East, Operation UDO KA II, have successfully eliminated four individuals suspected to be members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and its militant wing, the Eastern Security Network (ESN).
The operation took place on Thursday along the Orsumoghu-Ukpor road in Anambra State. The troops were ambushed by daring gunmen who employed an Improvised Explosive Device (IED). However, the officers swiftly engaged the assailants in a firefight, resulting in the death of the four agitators.
Unuakhalu explained that the troops effectively countered the ambush using superior firepower, neutralizing one IPOB member. Additionally, three more bodies of the criminal elements, who succumbed to gunshot wounds, were recovered after the battle.
During the operation, two AK-47 rifles were seized at the scene of the firefight. Some of the criminals managed to escape into nearby bushes with various degrees of gunshot injuries.
The Joint Task Force South East, Operation UDO KA II, reassured the people of the South-East region of its unwavering determination and commitment to restoring lasting peace. The task force urged law-abiding citizens to continue providing timely, credible, and reliable information to help eradicate the security challenges posed by the irredentist group in the region.
The statement emphasized that Operation UDO KA II will persist in combating crime and criminality according to the applicable rules and regulations governing its operations.
