The Federal High Court in Abuja has scheduled May 30 and 31 for the continuation of the trial of Ali Bello, who is the nephew of Gov. Yahaya Bello of Kogi, along with three others. They were arraigned by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on allegations of N3 billion fraud.

During the recent court session on Tuesday, the prosecution, led by Mr Rotimi Oyedepo, SAN, called their first witness, Mr Nicholas Oyemomoni from the American International School, Abuja. However, Oyemomoni could not complete his testimony as the defense team, led by Mr Abubakar Aliyu, SAN, objected to the documents that the EFCC sought to tender in evidence through him.

Aliyu requested the court to allow him to raise the objection in his final written address while admitting the documents provisionally. The prosecuting counsel objected to this, stating that the documents could not be provisionally admitted. As a result, the judge, Justice Obiora Egwuatu, adjourned the matter until May 30 and 31 for the continuation of the trial.

It’s worth noting that Bello and the three others were granted bail on Feb. 20 in the sum of N500 million, as previously reported by the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).
