The Court of Appeal in Abuja has scheduled Tuesday as the day when the judgement on the Rivers State governorship election will be delivered.

Governor Sim Fubara’s camp had previously alleged that former Governor Nyesom Wike intends to utilize the courts to remove him from office.

It is reported that the former governor, who now serves as the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, is prepared to support a candidate from another party in a fresh election.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has lodged an appeal against the decision of the Governorship Election Tribunal, which upheld the election victory of Fubara from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). The appeal was filed by Patrick Tonye-Cole, the APC candidate.

The three-member panel of the tribunal dismissed Tonye-Cole’s petition, citing its lack of merit. One of the grounds for dismissal was that Tonye-Cole lacked the authority to independently challenge Governor Fubara’s victory without the involvement of his political party, among other reasons.
