Rivers Speaker Calls on IGP to Address Alleged Assassination Attempt

Mr. Edison Ehie, the Factional Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly (PDP-Ahoada 11), has called on the Inspector General of Police (IGP) to promptly address the alleged misconduct of certain officers deployed in Rivers State.

The Speaker made this appeal during a press conference on Monday, where he discussed an alleged invasion of his Port Harcourt residence by purported assassins.

According to Ehie, a group of individuals accompanied by armed police officers forcefully entered his residence at 11:00 p.m. on Sunday, firing shots in an attempt to assassinate him and his family members.

He claimed to have been under attack since October 30, when he openly expressed support for Governor Siminalaye Fubara, whom some lawmakers tried to unjustly remove from office.

“We have faced attacks and threats because we stood by the governor, affirming that evil cannot triumph over good in the state. These incidents escalated after my election as the Speaker of the 10th Assembly,” he stated.

Ehie expressed gratitude for the concern shown by the people of the state when news of the assassination attempt became public. He also reiterated his support for Governor Fubara.

However, Mr. Olatunji Disu, the Commissioner of Police in Rivers State, dismissed the Speaker’s claims.
