President Tinubu pledges Nigeria's support to AU and OIC

President Bola Tinubu expressed the strategic role of the African Union (AU) in securing consensus positions for Africa on global economic and socio-political relations during a bilateral discussion with President Azali Assoumani, the President of the Union of Comoros and Chairperson of the AU.

President Tinubu highlighted the importance of embracing freedom and constitutional order for sustainable development and praised the AU’s efforts in bringing peace to regions like the Sahel and Sudan.

President Assoumani, Chairperson of the AU, emphasized the need to confront extra-constitutional power struggles in Africa and urged China and Russia to ensure stability in countries impacted by coups. He sought Nigeria’s cooperation and experience in improving diversity management, electoral processes, and economic growth to turn Comoros into an emerging economy.

In another meeting with the Secretary-General of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), Hissein Brahim Taha, President Tinubu stressed the strategic role of the Islamic world in sustaining peace and development in Africa. He appreciated the OIC’s support for agricultural growth and food security in the region. The OIC Secretary-General praised President Tinubu’s efforts in promoting common understanding and invited him to the upcoming OIC Heads of State Summit.
