As Kogi State prepares for the gubernatorial election, with 1,833,160 voters expected to participate, the Nigeria Police Force has issued a directive prohibiting security personnel from escorting Very Important Persons (VIPs) to polling units.
The Kogi State Police Public Relations Officer, SP William Ovye Aya, relayed a statement from the Deputy Inspector-General of Police in charge of Kogi State, DIG Habu Sani. According to the statement, it is strictly forbidden for any security personnel assigned to VIPs, political figures, or public officers to move or accompany their principals to polling units during the period of vehicular movement restrictions.
The statement emphasized that any officer found violating this order would be apprehended and appropriately dealt with. The DIG urged VIPs, political figures, and public officers to take note of this directive in order to prevent any potential embarrassment. The police and other security agencies are committed to ensuring a secure environment during the election, and any breach of security will not be tolerated.
