During the weekly State Executive Council meeting, the Osun State Government made the decision to recruit 5,000 teachers and 250 education officers.

A statement released by the spokesperson to the Osun State Governor, Olawale Rasheed, confirmed the recruitment plan. The teachers and education officers will be hired to fill vacancies within the state teaching service.

It is worth noting that the previous administration, under Adegboyega Oyetola, had recruited 1,500 teachers, but they were subsequently dismissed by Governor Ademola Adeleke upon assuming office in November 2022 through an Executive Order.

Governor Adeleke also announced the establishment of a review committee that would produce a White Paper on the matter.

In 2022, the state Commissioner for Education, Dipo Eluwole, stated during an interactive session with journalists that the state was prepared to hire new teachers for its public schools. Eluwole mentioned that an education summit would be convened to implement recommendations.

The statement further emphasized, “The Council acknowledged that the approval for teacher recruitment follows the completion of the need assessment, which the Governor ordered last year. The Council directed the Ministry of Education to expedite the recruitment process in order to strengthen the education system.”
