Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, led a delegation on Friday to inspect the traffic congestion along the Oshodi-Apapa Expressway, specifically at the Mile-2 Bus Stop.
He emphasized a zero-tolerance approach towards environmental nuisances not only in that area but across the entire state.
The traffic gridlock on the Oshodi-Apapa Expressway around the Mile-2 axis had been a recurring issue, prompting public outcry. Vanguard newspapers had been consistently reporting on the daily traffic situation in response to this concern. The problem primarily stemmed from indiscriminate parking by truckers, leading to severe hardships for other motorists and residents using the road.
Motorists and road users often found themselves stuck for hours as trucks occupied the entire road, and law enforcement agents were reported to engage in extortion from drivers.
The State Executive Council members who accompanied the governor on this tour included Gbenga Omotoso, the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Tokunbo Wahab, the Commissioner for the Environment, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, the Commissioner for Transportation, Sola Giwa, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Transportation, and other senior officials.
During the inspection, Governor Sanwo-Olu stopped at the Mile-2 Bus Stop Ramp, where he engaged with some operators and stressed the importance of maintaining order and discipline in the area.
