OAU ASUU Instructs Members to Cease Work in Strike Action

Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) members in Ile-Ife have expressed their willingness to comply with the strike action called for by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC).

According to Prof Anthony Odiwe, the Chairman of OAU ASUU, the union has directed all its members to withdraw their services starting from midnight on Tuesday, November 14, in line with the national directive.

Odiwe stated, “I have already communicated the message and instructions to our members. We will comply. I’m preparing to go to the school to deliver an official letter to the Vice-Chancellor to inform him.”

The nationwide strike, declared by the NLC, is in response to the assault on Joe Ajaero, the President of NLC, by the police in Owerri, Imo State earlier this month.

Additionally, the strike aims to demand the redeployment of the Commissioner of Police in Imo State. The police have denied arresting Ajaero, stating that he was taken into protective custody to prevent a mob attack.
