Brigadier General Y.D. Ahmed, the Director General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), has emphasized the importance of community development projects for the 2023 Batch ‘C’ Stream One corps members.
He urged them to undertake projects that would enhance the living standards of the residents in their host communities.
During his visit to the NYSC Sokoto and Kebbi State orientation camps, Gen Ahmed highlighted that Community Development Service (CDS) is one of the four mandatory cardinal programs of the NYSC. Active participation in CDS is a requirement for corps members before they can receive their certificate of national service.
The Director General appealed to corps members to assess the needs of their host communities and obtain approval from the NYSC before initiating any projects. He also advised them not to use their monthly allowances to fund projects, as it is considered an offense. Instead, he encouraged them to seek external sources of funding.
Furthermore, Gen Ahmed emphasized the importance of personal safety. He reminded the corps members to avoid accepting rides from strangers and to use approved motor parks when traveling. He urged them to apply the security lectures provided during their camp training and to be cautious of any potential risks.
The NYSC Sokoto State Coordinator, Alhaji Yakubu Yaro Usman, commended the corps members in the Wamakko camp for their law-abiding and diligent behavior.
Mrs. Okolo Aghata Banki, the Kebbi State coordinator, echoed the spirit of collaboration among camp officials during the NYSC program. She mentioned that a total of 154 officials from the NYSC and other collaborating agencies are working together to ensure a smooth operation.
At the camp, a total of 1,088 corps members were successfully registered, reflecting the enthusiasm and participation of the young individuals.
Mrs. Banki emphasized that the security and general well-being of all corps members at the camp are of utmost importance. Measures have been put in place to ensure their safety throughout their stay. The camp officials are dedicated to creating an environment that fosters personal security and overall welfare for the corps members.
