The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has refuted media reports claiming that its operatives killed two children at a secondary school in Gwarinpa, Abuja.
Ms. Comfort Okomanyi, spokesperson for the NSCDC’s FCT command, stated that the students in question were alive and receiving medical treatment at a facility in the FCT.
Mr. Olusola Odumosu, the FCT Commandant of the NSCDC, visited the injured pupils on Thursday, as confirmed by Okomanyi.
Media reports had indicated that two students from Gwarinpa Junior Secondary School were accidentally shot by NSCDC personnel during a confrontation involving suspected cult groups.
Okomanyi declared that the NSCDC Commandant-General, Mr. Ahmed Audi, had established an inquiry team to investigate the incident.
Audi further disclosed that the NSCDC was committed to implementing an internal disciplinary system to hold any personnel accountable if found to be responsible for the unfortunate incident.
“The corps apologizes to the parents and guardians of the two injured students, assuring them that the incurred medical expenses will be covered,” he stated.
