The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), under the leadership of Commandant General Ahmed Abubakar Audi, has introduced a VIP Protection Unit within the corps.
In a statement by the NSCDC national PRO, CSC Babawale Zaid Afolabi, Commandant General Audi emphasized the importance of professionalism and urged the members of the new unit to uphold the reputation of the corps.
The passing-out ceremony was held for over 501 personnel selected from state commands nationwide and other formations after undergoing intensive proficiency training at the NSCDC national headquarters in Abuja.
Represented at the event by Assistant Commandant General ACG Augustine Obiekwe, who oversees the Agro Rangers department, Audi highlighted that the unit’s primary responsibility is to ensure the safety and security of individuals who face higher risks due to their status, prominence, and influence. He reiterated that the unit’s objective is to minimize harm to VIPs while preserving their privacy and enabling them to carry out their daily activities and engagements.
During the welcome address, ACG David Abi, in charge of Training and Manpower Development, urged the officers to apply the knowledge gained during their training, emphasizing that the corps must meet and exceed expectations.
To fulfill the Federal Government’s mandate, the Commandant General approved the establishment of a specialized bodyguard/VIP protection unit. This initiative aims to enhance coordination, command, and control of selected personnel to provide better service delivery in line with global best practices. Assistant Commandant of Corps Donald Anyor, who made significant contributions to the training manuals, was appointed as the head of the unit as approved by the NSCDC Commandant General.
